A 22mm OSB (Oriented Strand Board) is a high-performance engineered wood product widely used in construction, cabinetry, and structural applications. Known for its strength, durability, and cost-effectiveness, 22mm OSB provides excellent load-bearing capacity due to its thick, layered composition of compressed wood strands aligned in specific orientations. This thickness is ideal for applications requiring enhanced rigidity and stability.

Moisture Resistance
22mm OSB boards are manufactured with water-resistant resins and often include wax additives in the core to reduce moisture absorption. This treatment enhances performance in high-humidity environments, making the boards suitable for use in basements, bathrooms, kitchens, and exterior wall sheathing—especially when combined with proper vapor barriers and weatherproofing.
Durability and Structural Strength
The 22mm thickness significantly enhances the board’s load-bearing capacity, making it one of the strongest standard OSB sizes available. It provides excellent resistance to bending, shear forces, and impact, which is crucial for structural applications like floor decking, roof sheathing, and load-bearing walls.
Cost-Effectiveness
Compared to plywood, 22mm OSB is generally more affordable due to its efficient production process, which utilizes small-diameter, fast-growing trees and wood waste materials. This sustainable approach reduces raw material costs without compromising structural performance.
Versatility in Application
One of the standout qualities of 22mm OSB is its adaptability across various construction phases and environments. It can be used for interior applications such as flooring underlayment, partition walls, and shelving, as well as exterior roles including roof decking, siding sheathing, and temporary formwork.
Uniformity and Dimensional Stability
Unlike natural plywood, which may have variations due to wood veneer grain and knots, 22mm OSB is engineered for consistency. The manufacturing process ensures uniform density and strand distribution throughout the panel, minimizing weak spots and reducing the risk of warping, splitting, or delamination.
Standard OSB
The most common type, ideal for general construction and structural use in walls, roofs, and flooring systems.
Structural OSB
Specially engineered to meet strict building code requirements for load-bearing and shear strength in critical applications.
Water-Resistant OSB
Treated with moisture-resistant resins and additives to withstand damp conditions without warping or delamination.
OSB for Furniture & Interior Use
Designed with a smooth, sanded surface and available with laminates or veneers for aesthetic appeal in interior applications.
Flame-Retardant OSB
Manufactured with fire-inhibiting chemicals to slow flame spread and improve safety in high-risk environments.

Advantages of 22mm OSB Board
Structural Applications in Construction
22mm OSB is widely specified in commercial and residential construction for critical structural components such as roofing, flooring, and wall sheathing.
01
Furniture Manufacturing
As demand for sustainable and industrial-style furniture grows, 22mm OSB has emerged as a popular alternative to solid wood and plywood. Its consistent thickness and robust nature make it perfect for crafting durable, modern pieces.
02
Interior Design & Decorative Features
The raw, organic texture of 22mm OSB makes it a favorite among interior designers seeking to create warm, industrial, or eco-conscious environments.
03
Packaging & Industrial Crating
With sustainability becoming a priority in logistics, 22mm OSB is increasingly replacing traditional plywood in heavy-duty packaging solutions.
04
Retail Displays & Fixtures
The rugged, unfinished appearance of 22mm OSB aligns perfectly with contemporary retail branding that emphasizes authenticity and craftsmanship.
05
Specifications of 22mm OSB Board
Most 22mm OSB panels are manufactured in the industry-standard size of 1219mm × 2440mm (4' × 8'), allowing for compatibility with common framing and construction layouts.
Made from compressed wood strands oriented in specific directions and bonded with waterproof resin under high heat and pressure, resulting in a strong, uniform, and dimensionally stable panel.
OSB is classified by performance grade, which determines its suitability for different applications:
OSB/2: General purpose, suitable for dry interior conditions (e.g., furniture, non-structural walls).
OSB/3: Load-bearing panels for humid conditions (e.g., flooring, roof decking, exterior walls).
OSB/4: Heavy-duty structural use in demanding environments (e.g., industrial flooring, load-bearing walls).
While standard OSB is not fully waterproof, OSB/3 and OSB/4 grades use water-resistant phenolic resins to withstand temporary moisture exposure without delaminating.
The 22mm thickness provides superior stiffness and resistance to deflection, making it ideal for floor sheathing, roof decking, and shelving where structural integrity is critical.

Seal Cut Edges: Always seal exposed edges with waterproof paint or resin to prevent moisture ingress, especially in damp environments.
Allow Expansion Gaps: Leave a 3–5mm gap between panels to accommodate slight expansion due to humidity changes.
Use Corrosion-Resistant Fasteners: Pair OSB with galvanized or coated nails/screws to prevent rust and maintain structural integrity.
Store Properly: Keep boards flat and off the ground in a dry, covered area before installation to avoid warping or moisture damage.
Follow Building Codes: Ensure compliance with local regulations regarding fire ratings, vapor barriers, and structural requirements when using OSB in critical applications.
Maintenance & Care Guidelines
Moisture Protection: Even water-resistant OSB is susceptible to swelling and degradation if exposed to prolonged moisture. Avoid direct water contact, especially on untreated edges. Use in damp areas only with proper sealing and ventilation.
Sealing and Finishing: For long-term durability, apply a high-quality waterproof sealant, paint, or varnish to all surfaces and cut edges. This prevents moisture ingress and enhances appearance, particularly in interior or furniture applications.
Cleaning: Clean with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Never use excessive water or steam cleaners, as moisture can cause swelling, warping, or delamination—especially in non-treated OSB.
Scratch and Dent Prevention: Despite its strength, OSB can be scratched or dented under heavy impact. Use felt pads, rubber feet, or protective mats under furniture legs or heavy objects to minimize surface damage.
Routine Inspection: Regularly inspect panels for signs of warping, cracking, edge swelling, or delamination. Early detection allows for repairs or replacement before structural integrity is compromised.
