LVL Timber Frame is a building structural system that uses high-strength engineered wood (LVL) made from rotary-cut veneers glued together along the grain as its core components. Through a lamination process, it eliminates the defects of natural wood, offering structural stability, high strength, and processing flexibility. It is widely used in modern building frames, beam and column systems, and special applications.

High Strength and Stability: The bending strength along the grain can reach 50-70 MPa, which is 1.5-2 times that of traditional solid wood; the laminated structure eliminates defects such as knots and cracks found in natural wood, resulting in excellent dimensional stability and resistance to temperature and humidity changes, with virtually no expansion or contraction.
Processing Flexibility: Customizable in length, width, and thickness, with a dimensional accuracy error of ≤±1mm. It is easy to cut, drill, nail, and sand, meeting the needs of complex designs.
Environmental Friendliness and Durability: Complies with E0/E1 environmental standards, with formaldehyde emissions below 0.1 mg/L; accelerated aging tests show that the adhesive layer is far more durable than that of solid wood, and it exhibits excellent fire resistance.

Type of LVL Timber Frame
LVL Reinforced Pure Frame
LVL components are joined longitudinally or transversely using reinforcing bars or metal connectors (such as bolts and nails) to form a pure frame structure without infill.
LVL Steel-Plated Pure Frame
Steel plates are embedded at the connection nodes of LVL components and fixed by welding or bolts to enhance the stiffness and shear resistance of the nodes.
LVL Infilled Shear Wall Beam-Column Timber Frame
Shear walls (such as plywood or OSB panels) are used to infill the LVL beam-column frame, forming a lateral force resisting system.
Applications of LVL Timber Frame
Residential and Commercial Buildings: Used as a core framing material, supporting roofs, floors, and walls.
Large-Span Structures:Used in applications requiring heavy load-bearing capacity, such as bridges and stadium grandstands.
Logistics and Transportation: LVL is used in large logistics center roofs, achieving a 75% weight reduction, saving on foundation construction, material transportation, and installation costs; fumigation-free wooden crates and pallets provide secure protection for goods.
Industrial Equipment: Used in components requiring high strength and durability, such as truck bed panels and floor joists.
Interior Decoration: Used in door cores, furniture frames, and room decoration wood framing (e.g.).
Art Installations: Used in designs incorporating complex geometric shapes to create unique spaces.
Manufacturing Process of LVL Timber Frame
Veneer Preparation
Logs are rotary-cut into thin veneers with a thickness of 2.5-4.8 mm. After drying, a waterproof adhesive (such as phenolic resin glue) is applied.
Lamination and Assembly
The veneers are laid flat layer by layer in the direction of the wood grain. In some processes, carbon fiber layers are embedded between the layers to enhance performance.
Hot Pressing and Curing
Through pre-pressing with a cold press and high-temperature, high-pressure treatment with a hot press, the veneers are bonded and cured, forming a unified structure.
Post-processing
After cutting, chamfering, and anti-corrosion treatment, standard-sized LVL panels are produced. Their density is approximately 0.55 tons/cubic meter, which is lower than solid wood (e.g., larch has a density of 0.8 tons/cubic meter), but their strength is higher.
Usage and Maintenance
Humidity Control: Indoor humidity should be maintained within the range of 40%-60% to prevent LVL from swelling due to prolonged high humidity or cracking due to low humidity.
Temperature Management: Avoid exposing LVL to temperatures above 60℃ for extended periods to prevent aging and delamination of the adhesive layer.
Visual Inspection: Every six months, check the frame surface for cracks, deformation, or delamination, paying particular attention to the connection points.
Corrosion and Pest Control Review: For outdoor frames, annually check the effectiveness of the anti-corrosion coating and pest control treatment, and reapply or re-treat as needed.
Load Reassessment: If the building's use changes (e.g., adding floors or equipment), the load must be recalculated and the frame's safety assessed.
Avoid Unauthorized Modifications: Do not remove or modify LVL frame components without professional design, as this may compromise the overall structural stability.
Reinforcement Solutions: If reinforcement is necessary, a structural engineer must develop a plan based on the actual situation, such as adding steel supports or applying carbon fiber fabric.
