LVL stands for Laminated Veneer Lumber and it’s a type of engineered wood that is used in construction.LVL is made by gluing several thin sheets of plywood together. This process creates a strong, durable, and uniform beam that is used in construction to support weight and span distances. The thin sheets of plywood are glued together under high pressure, ensuring a strong bond between the layers.

Advantages of Building LVL Beams
Strength
LVL beams have a higher strength-to-weight ratio compared to solid lumber, allowing for longer spans and greater load-bearing capacity.
Durability
They are less susceptible to twisting and cracking, ensuring long-term structural integrity.
Consistency
LVL beams are manufactured to precise specifications, offering uniform quality throughout the entire beam length.
Span
The manufacturing method of LVL allows for bigger spans or sizes, since it’s not constrained by the size of logs used.
Low cost
LVL beams are much more cost-effective than solid lumber, since they require less material to produce.
Humidity-resistant
LVL beams are more resistant to changes in humidity, making them less prone to shrinking and swelling
Residential Construction: LVL beams are extensively used in residential construction, particularly for supporting heavy roofs, floors, and load-bearing walls, ensuring the longevity and stability of homes in the Cincinnati area.
Commercial Projects: Commercial structures such as warehouses, shopping centers, and office buildings also benefit from engineered LVL beams’ enhanced load-bearing capacity and ability to span long distances.
Infrastructure: LVL beams are instrumental in the city’s infrastructure renovation and restoration projects employ LVL beams to reinforce aging structures, ensuring their longevity.

Veneer Production
Thin sheets of wood (veneers) are produced using a rotary peeling technique. These veneers typically have a thickness of 2.5 mm to 4.8 mm.
Drying
The veneers are dried to the desired moisture content using specialized dryers, ensuring uniformity.
Assembly
The dried veneers are coated with adhesives and then stacked with the grain of each layer running parallel.
Pressing
The stack is pressed under high heat and pressure to form a solid, stable beam.
Cutting
The resulting LVL is cut to the required dimensions for various applications.
Maintenance
Surface Protection: Reapply waterproof paint (such as polyurethane or acrylic coating) to the beam surface every 3-5 years, focusing on the ends and cut sections.
Bottom Isolation: Install a waterproof layer (such as plastic film or asphalt felt) at the contact points between the beam and the ground or wall to prevent direct moisture penetration.
Ventilation Optimization: Ensure good ventilation in the space below the beam to prevent water accumulation. For example, install vents in the attic to maintain air circulation.
Corrosion Protection: In corrosive environments (such as near chemical plants), spray the beam with anti-corrosion agents (such as copper-based or boron-based solutions) every 5 years, or use a pressure impregnation process to enhance corrosion resistance.
Pest Control Measures: In areas with active termites, inspect and replenish insecticide (such as bifenthrin) every 2 years, or embed insecticide capsules in the structure.
Coating Renewal: Inspect the fire-retardant coating every 10 years. If the thickness is reduced by more than 25% or peeling occurs, reapply the coating to meet the required fire resistance rating (e.g., 1.5 hours).
Fire Isolation: Install fire-resistant boards or gypsum boards around the beam to slow down the spread of fire.
